Something very important we all need
to know is everyone has a potential to be a Leader but not everyone wants to be
a Leader!
The success of any firm depends on the
success of the leadership. The job of the leader is not to produce results; it
actually is a by-product of the right leadership. The actual job of a leader is
to nurture their team. It is really important for people to work in ways here
they can look up to people for advice and be dependent on them for personal
growth. A leader cannot simply fire people for underperformance or nonperformance. The team they have is their team. They either chose it or they
either inherited it.
If they chose the team and a member
doesn’t perform, it is the leader's fault. Either he chose a wrong fit or most
commonly he chose a member who had potential but failed to guide them right!
And if the leader says they inherited
the team, well the leader in that position before saw the same potential and
hence it is still their fault.
If you child fails in an exam, will
you go out and say, “Hey, you’re going to be up for adoption if you do not
perform!” The same logic applies here. The team is yours, and you were to lead
them. You need to decide if you want to be that leader or simply pass on that
job to someone else. You will still be rewarded for the other things you do. Do
not blindly run for position as it is the power you want!
Some leaders often have a strategy to
abandon their team and simply run it with Targets or a couple of beers as
rewards. Well, this is simply like telling your kid to score well and you will
open your alcohol cabinet for them.
I have worked with various organizations
and various managers and leaders across! There are some organizations who might
not be equally profitable to you as the others, but you still wish to work with
them repeatedly. This I surely because of the culture their leaders infused in
the organization. The groomed the team to be as awesome. Those managers do not
just go to work for their pay-check at the end of the month, but actually go
there for the fulfillment they receive from the work they do.
The biggest lack that these leaders
have today is gratitude. If you are not empathetic about your team or kind to
them, how do you expect them to deliver to your vision? Everyone is going to
have tasks to find x or research y or maybe just create a certain abc . But what motivates them to deliver
is the number of times the leader reaches out to them to ask if they are stuck,
to check if they need help and not stand by to inspect where they reached! Everyone
has issues, personal or professional, both which could lead to a non effective
member. This behavior or attitude generally fail's leadership! Companies shut
and wrap up because of failed leaderships!
The other biggest issue today is the
fact that to build Trust and cooperation the biggest tool companies use today
is Mass layoffs! Well, how can you build trust and cooperation by taking away
the livelihood of so many people? Do not worry about the people whose jobs you
took, worry about the people who are still with you. Every day, they come to
work scared just because the company missed its annual numbers. And their fault in it was? Well fire the leaders not the doers! You might have everyone working
at their individual best.
The ideal environment that’s needed is
people standing up and expressing their problems and asking for help. Not a
place where people are scared and unsure. You keep shouting to them that they
are the future leaders, but you are the leaders now? What are you doing? How
are you helping your team? We don’t always have to be right, we don’t always
have to be in charge, we just need the right perspective.
“Don’t be obsessed with
your competition,
